The Mastery of Breast Surgery is intended to "help surgeons document their clinical performance of breast procedures, as well as their care of breast patients and patients at risk for breast cancer." (https://masterybreastsurgeons.org) This registry is particularly unique because it provides physicians with immediate results and suggestions of their performance. Below are just a few key features of the Mastery of Breast Surgery:

Risk, Procedure, Surgery, and Cancer Modules
After the physicians enters a patient into the Mastery, they are then able to add, edit, view, and print individual risk, procedure, surgery and cancer models for their patients. These modules are for the physicians to document and store their clinical performance of breast procedures. Each module was designed with the physician in mind - things are ordered and ranked appropriately so that with a few clicks of the mouse the physician can collect their data in a matter of minutes. While it is a fast process, the physician is warned incase they make any errors on the screen with intensive validation on every form. The Mastery introduced the risk module several months after it's original launch because physicians began to see the benifits of real time calculations. The risk module includes 4 specific risk calculations - Gail Risk, Taxmofien/Benefit Risk, Claus Risk, and Myriad Risk - some of which have never been published online.

Personalized Messages and Suggestions
The Mastery includes the option for physicians to recieve personalized messages announcing them of their performance as well as possible suggestions to improve the breast care of their patients. Physicians are notified once they have reached different milestones on the site as well as when they quality for the CMS PQRS Registry . The NCCN updated their guideline in June 2011 to include patients with triple negative breast cancer diagnosed below the age of 60... the Mastery was able to contact every physician alerting them of all the patients that this NCCN update affected. Over 700 patients were detected whom qualified for genetic testing based on these new updates.

Reports and Statistics
The Mastery collects an enormous amount of data, which allows the American Society of Breast Surgeons to track different trends in breast care across the nation. Information can be analyzed by time, region, age groups, practice type, sex, race and procedure. Information can be calculated and returned to physicians - not only data of the overall quality of care that they report but that of the society. Physicians are able to compare their individual numbers with those of the society, finding areas in which they need to improve. Within 2 years, the Mastery has registered 500 physicians and has collected data on over 50,000 patients, 20,000 proceudres, 40,000 surgeries, and 15,000 cancers - numbers that create statistical signficants and rival some of the most well renown research institutions.
